2020 Season Update

2020 Baseball Season is a Go!

We know that you have all been chomping at the bit for the latest and greatest updates and to see if Baseball can even resume. The answer is yes, Baseball can resume! We are approved by the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment to resume practices (see below) and we are working with the AYL Baseball Board on rescheduling all games.

The below information can be found at: https://covid19.colorado.gov/safer-at-home/recreation

Organized recreational sports

  • Organized youth or adult recreational sports leagues in groups of up to 25 players, excluding coaches and referees/umpires, are permitted.
  • Spectators are strongly discouraged for adult sports. Spectators, like parents, are permitted for youth sports, so long as members from different households maintain at least 6 feet of physical distance from each other.
  • Maintain contact information and team rosters and be prepared to support local public health contact tracing efforts if exposures occur.
  • Consider participating in low or no-contact sports (like baseball, cross country, or cycling) instead of high-contact sports (like wrestling or soccer).
  • Do not share snacks or water, except in emergency situations.
  • Consider encouraging use of personal equipment such as bats, mitts, rackets, etc.
  • Consider only holding games with other teams every 2 weeks, to minimize the number of new teams of players interacting. Regular practices with the same group are fine.
  • Games that require extensive travel are strongly discouraged.
  • Practice social distancing of 6 feet from other households during drop off/pick up of players.
  • Masks are encouraged where feasible (i.e. in dugouts, by coaches, by spectators)
  • Competitive events such as races and endurance events are allowed as long as social distancing and limitations on group size can be maintained. This includes implementing staggered start times and making efforts to prevent gatherings at starts and finishes, so that no more than 10 people are gathered at a time.

Participants

  • Continue to physically distance, staying at least 6 feet from members of other households.
  • Stay home other than getting  tested if you are sick or have COVID-19 symptoms
  • Avoid recreating in public spaces if anyone in your household is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.
  • Encouraged to wear a mask while recreating.
  • Bring hand sanitizer to clean hands when soap and water is not available.

And there you have it, those were the answers that we were looking for, so let us get to the good stuff!

2020 GUIDELINES:

Guidelines for the 2020 Baseball season have been emailed to all registered players, they will need to be read, accepted, and followed by EVERYONE! Please read though them and educate yourselves so we can all have success in coming back together responsibly.

MANDATORY LIABILITY WAIVER:

MANDATORY liability waiver has been emailed to all registered players. That waiver must be signed by every player’s parent that chooses to have their child participate in the 2020 Baseball Season. Only coaches and players who have a signed waiver on file with the Thunder will be allowed to practice and play games.

WHAT TO DO WITH THE WAIVER ONCE IT IS SIGNED:

Once the waiver is signed, a copy must be emailed to

MANDATORY ATTENDANCE RECORDING AT EVERY PRACTICE AND GAME:

It will be the head coach’s responsibility to either take attendance themselves or assign a parent to take attendance at every practice and every game. THIS IS MANDATORY!!!! All attendance sheets will to be turned in to the Thunder Admin the same day as the practice or game. The Thunder will provide each coach with an attendance sheet based on the players who have a signed waiver on file.

THUNDER NEEDS TO KNOW THE PLAYERS WHO WANT TO PLAY:

Please let your coach know as soon as possible if your player will be participating. We have asked coaches to get a list by Sunday June 7, 2020 by 5pm so we can work on rosters and attendance sheets.

WHAT IF THE TEAM DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH KIDS TO FILL A ROSTER:

Do NOT throw in the towel. We have several teams who will be facing this same issue. We will be working with each team to either merge teams together or, if needed we will open registration to fill teams. We will do anything we can, that follows all rules and guidelines, to give these players the season they deserve.

WHAT IF WE HAVE DECIDED NOT WANT TO PLAY NO MATTER WHAT AND IS ASKING FOR A REFUND:

ALL REFUND INQUIRIES ARE TO BE DIRECTED TO

Please understand that if you choose not to participate and you have ordered and paid for a uniform and/or spirit wear through Denver Athletic, you will need to contact Denver Athletic directly to discuss. The Thunder organization will not be issuing any refunds on gear that is purchased through Denver Athletic.

We hope that this provides some clarity for you to make decisions for your family. We understand that these times are uncertain, however, this is beginning of getting back to some sort of normalcy in a safe and responsible way.
